Fifteen Pittsburg county Chapter AARP members and guests participated in a State and Nation wide AARP Make a Difference Day by working with the local Shared Blessings organization. The group packed 452 snack packs for nutrition needy children to take home on the weekend. The project included a total of 1,300 pounds of food. AARP sponsors the observance annually on September 11 in memory of those who lost their lives in terrorist attacks on that day. The day also honors the memory of Dr. Ethel Andrus Percy, founder of AARP, who believed in community service, feeding the hungry, financial security for seniors and health care for all. One of her mottos stressed that seniors strive to serve, not be served. The local chapter meets monthly on the third MOnday at 10:30 a.m. at Western Sizzlin. Visitors are welcomed.
